In early 2009 we were contacted by Søren Sørensen who I had met previously as part of the European Sustainable Tourism network. Søren was aware of our work building local food networks in Scotland and asked if we could present our systems to a Local food producer network operating in Southern Zealand and the Island of Mon in Denmark. They were interested in the Larderbytes technology and if we could accommodate a visit at the beginning of April.
We were of course delighted to do as much as we could with our limited resources to make this visit a success. We at Larderbytes value cross border exchanges as one of our objectives is carbon reduction which of course is not only an issue in Scotland but also across Europe and beyond. We feel that it is essential for small organizations such as ours to understand what is happening in other countries and hopefully in some small way contribute to working collaboratively to reduce the impact of climate change and where possible support other social benefits.

SRPB Events 26th and 30th of March
The Scottish Rural Property and Business Association (SRPBA) is holding two Rural Enterprise Demo Days, one at Kemnay, by Inverurie on Thursday 26 March and a second at Hopetoun Estate, Newton, West Lothian on Monday 30 March.
The topic for both days is Internet Communications and Telecomms. The demo day formula has been developed to allow rural business owners and land managers the opportunity to see practical demonstrations and meet and discuss many aspects of a specific area with business contacts and specialists.
These two events focus on the use of internet communications and telecomms to save costs, to enable remote working, and to explore further the benefits of broadband connectivity for rural business outside an urban context. In addition the events will examine the threat to rural business of urban super high-speed broadband development, and the developing use of Web 2.0 technology in websites.
Speakers at both events include Steve Dionne and John Allen of Internet for Business, David Byres of Scottish Enterprise, and Jim Mullen of Larderbytes. There will also be two case studies presented at each location.
Douglas McAdam, chief executive, SRPBA, says:
“It is vital that as this technology develops the rural sector is at its forefront as it embraces opportunities for diversification and efficiency. These demo days will be valuable for those already capitalising on internet and broadband for their rural businesses as well as those who, quite literally, need to get up to speed.”
Each event is free and runs from 10.00am to 15.30pm.
